Boom Racing 007-BR Drift Gyro - Tester Reviews

We've covered the Boom Racing drift gyro before and done a video breakdown, but hey. The voices of customers matter more, right?

Tester: Rob Dack
Test Rig: Kazama GSX-R
Motor: OMG Aluminum Sensored Brushless 540 Motor 13.5T 2850KV

Gyro was neatly packaged. 007-BR is a gyro with a great looking alloy case available in a variety of colors and also neat wiring. Box contained easy to follow instructions and its own little tool for gain adjustment. The only downside on opening the box was the lack of double sided tape for installation. The gyro allows for either the manual screw gain adjustment or the ch3 transmitter option.

I started the trial with the default box settings and after a quick trial and error gain adjustment I nailed the sweet spot. The Boom Racing gyro allows a lot more driver input, without the gyro doing all of the work. The smoothness and response was fantastic, giving the car a realistic look as it took each corner. Drifting felt natural and I felt I had a greater amount of control when compared to other gyros I have tried.

After trying several brands of gyros I felt this was up there with the best. Another nice find was that the 007-BR works well with a range of servos, where as some other gyro/servo combos I've tried have had glitching and power supply issues. Overall a great product at a great price.

Tester: Brian Cox
Test Rig: MST XXX-D VIP
Motor: Hobbywing QUICRUN brushless sensored 10.5T 3650KV

The Boom Racing gyro is nicely packaged and is housed inside an all-aluminum case which looks nice and feels well-made. As an added bonus it comes with a small screw driver tool for adjustment, removing the need to add a specific screw driver to your drift tool kit. Clear concise instructions are included with the packaging, making setup easy.

Setting up the gyro in the car was very easy given that this gyro sits on a flat, not on an edge. However the gyro was missing double sided tape to fix it down onto the chassis. The only other negative is that the provided tool can't change the dip switch positions easily; to do this a pick of some sort is required.

Once installed, we went through a quick gain check and put the car on the track. It was great. This gyro allows for so much more driver input without feeling like there is no gyro effect. If I had to describe the feel it would be 'natural'. Very impressed with this setup and will be sourcing more for my other chassis.
