Welcome, David, and thank you for sharing your amazing builds with the Boom community. Can you tell us about yourself and how you got into the hobby?

David:

Hello, my name is David Tierney. I'm 37, and I'm from Raymond, NH. I got into RC cars around 2004, and I've been hooked ever since.

Boom:

What was your first RC vehicle? Why choose the model you did? (and the level of detail you settled upon?)

David:

My first RC car was a Traxxas Stampede. The Stampede was a reliable truck that you could bash and crawl with, so I chose it.

Boom:

How did you discover the Boom Racing brand?

David:

I first discovered Boom Racing around 2014 and was a fan of their Krait wheels and other aluminum products.  

Boom:

Can you tell us about your Boom Racing vehicles?

David:

My first Boom Racing vehicle was the BRX02 109. I've always been a big fan of old Land Rovers so naturally it was my pic and being so scale I had to have one. Once I had one naturally you can't stop so I got a BRX02 88 and honestly it might be my favorite. The 88 is the perfect short wheelbase vehicle it's great on the trails and in any obstacle.

I have two BRX02 leafed trucks that are numbers 54 and 55 which I love. The 109 body is such a great looking body the scale is unreal. I also have a BRX01 with a Land Rover classic body on it and it's slowly becoming my favorite for scale rides. I plan on getting the new AWB chassis and a 6x6 by fall hopefully to continue on my fleet.

Boom:

What's the one tip (when building a new kit & rig) you think everyone should follow?

David:

The best tip I can give you when building a kit is to read the directions a few times with all the parts on the table. Don't be afraid to ask for help or contact Boom Racing for directions.

Another tip is that pre-painting body panels helps with assembly, so you're not trying to paint all at once.

Boom:

If you could build any vehicle from any era (that isn't currently being made), what would that vehicle be?

David:

I would love to see a 1965 Toyota FJ45 that's a hard body and leafed. I'm a big fan of leafed rigs compared to links, and it would just look the part on a nice leaf truck.

Boom:

Any tips on getting a good paint 'Adhesion' and 'Finish' when painting and detailing hard bodies?

David:

The biggest thing with paint is to do your research and make sure the paint and clear you're using won't have a bad reaction. Another huge step is to make sure you have any oils or grease washed off your hard body.

Boom:

What do you use for a driver figure and why?

David:

I like to do my research and look at pictures to decide what figure I'm gonna use. I'm into making my trucks look as real as possible. It might take me a week or 3 months to find the perfect piece.

Boom:

What is your experience with installing LEDs?

David:

I've been messing around with LED lights for a few years now either making my own or buying. It's difficult to find lights or a light bar that's good quality that is reasonably priced. Boom Racing has 3 different light bars that are waterproof and very good quality so that's my favorite pick.

Boom:

When fitting LEDs, what tips would you offer to achieve a more scale-looking light with no bleed-through behind them?

David:

When installing and fitting LED lights, just take a mine and map out the best course for wiring. If you can build a truck with no wires showing, you'll definitely get compliments.

Boom:

And finally...What final words of wisdom do you have for the rest of the Boom community to fire them up and inspire them into an epic build of their own?

David:

Boomracing has some amazing kits out there that are pushing scale further than most. There are many to choose from, and I promise you'll have a great time building. Honestly it's endless for the possibilities especially with the new kits coming out. Build a kit as your own with your own personality and you won't regret it I promise.
