The Ultimate GPM Upgrades For The Axial Yeti
The Axial Yeti is an amazingly versatile rock racer that has an abundance of upgrade parts that you can use to beef up this awesome car. By itself, the Yeti is a force to be reckoned with. But, can we make it even better? Of course we can. This week, we decided to fully utilize as many GPM Racing upgrades as we can to fortify the Yeti into an unstoppable machine. Let's just say that the results are AWESOME. Each part that we've used for the upgrades are full aluminum. Each part fits seamlessly in place and they make durability issues seem like a distant dream. Interested yet? Let's check out exactly what we used!
First up, we have GPM's Aluminum Front Knuckle Arm (#YT021). This new upgrade has a larger angle that will allow it to fit perfectly onto 9mm adapters. The reason this is mentioned is because the Yeti boasts similar parts to the front of the EXO, and the rear of the Wraith. However, parts made for the EXO would be too tight on the Yeti's 9mm adapters, so GPM's aluminum front knuckle gets rid of that issue. The 9mm adapters, which are stock on the Yeti, can also be upgraded. GPM has the #YT009, #YT014, and #YT022, all of which are matched with the mm size of the adapters. A suggested combination would be to utilize the 14mm adapters from the front and 22mm adapters for the rear, as doing so would provide a much more stable platform during high speed drives. In addition to these three different sizes, each of these adapters also has 3 versions, split between A, B, and C. The A versions (#YT009A) is the economy version, made for the customer that wants a low priced piece. The B versions are made with higher attention to detail and design. The C versions are made for a universal fit, meaning that they would fit on all Axial trucks, like the EXO, Wraith, etc.
Another great set of upgrades are the rear chassis links. While the plastic set of rear chassis links, both upper and lower, are decent, after a while, they will wear down and break. The aluminum upgrades provided by GPM does the trick in providing a durable and strong upgrade for this vulnerable spot. Let's touch on the lower rear chassis links (#YT014L). The aluminum lower rear chassis links has 3 adjustable holes to mount different shocks lengths. The Aluminum Upper Rear Chassis Links has two different versions. The first version is #YT014R, which is the upper rear chassis links with an angle, similar to the original ones installed to the unit. These were made for a perfect fit with the Yeti and will provide a durable link during bashing. The second version, #YT014, is different because it is straight and is cylindrical in shape. If you do use these, you must get GPM's lower rear chassis links and longer shocks to fit it.
Another important upgrade that's focused on is GPM's Aluminum Front Lower Arm (#YT055). GPM specifically made a trim to the arms to make space for the shock caps used. Also, GPM's aluminum front lower arms feature a rubber entry point where the shaft holds the arms in place, reducing the friction between the shaft and the arms. The GPM Aluminum Chassis (#YT017) is also pretty sweet for the Yeti. This upgrade makes it a lot more hearty and it also protects the receiver. It also follows the Y Shape design unique to the Yeti.
GPM's Aluminum Front Shock Tower (#YT028) is also an important part, as the EXO equivalent that should fit on the Yeti would push the front bumpers too far. GPM's aluminum front shock tower replacement removes that issues and fits seamlessly in place, providing a more durable medium. GPM's Rear Cage Component (#YT030) is also a great part to have on the Yeti. This rear cage component is awesome because it allows users to put two shocks on the rear of their Yeti (which they should use in tandem with the rear lower chassis links).
Want to upgrade the gears in your motor? The Steel #45 Pinion Gear (#YT017TS) and the Aluminum Slipper Plate + Steel Spur Gear (#YT1664T) are great parts to incorporate into the Axial Yeti. The pinion gear is 17T and is made of steel, making it incredibly durable. The aluminum slipper plate from #YT1664T protects the inner gears and the steel spur gear is 64T. The purpose of these two items is to provide a tight fitting gear combination that will allow the car to be used at its full potential. These parts are exclusive to GPM and will reduce any slippage in the gears.
Last but not least, the steering assembly unit is incredibly important! GPM has three different units for the steering assembly, and each one of them are important to providing flawless steering functions. The aluminum steering assembly rod (#YT049), aluminum steering assembly post with bearings (#YT048A) and the aluminum steering assembly (#YT048) are all made to provide accurate and responsive steering for this already-heavy vehicle.
